NATO has welcomed the talks held between U.S. President Donald Trump and the alliance’s Secretary General, Mark Rutte, describing them as “very productive,” with a particular focus on security in the Arctic region.
NATO spokesperson Allison Hart said the discussions centered on establishing a framework for cooperation among allies to ensure stability and security in this strategic region.
“Discussions among NATO allies regarding the framework mentioned by the president will focus on ensuring Arctic security through the collective efforts of the allies, particularly the seven Arctic allies,” Hart stated.
She added that negotiations between Denmark, Greenland, and the United States will continue, with the aim of preventing any attempts by Russia and China to gain economic or military influence in Greenland.
According to NATO, close cooperation among allies remains essential to maintaining security in the Arctic, at a time when the region is gaining increasing strategic importance on the international stage.
