NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasized that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has promised full accountability for the terrorist attack in Banjskë and the attacks on KFOR troops during unrest in spring 2023.
Speaking to the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Rutte said NATO is closely monitoring security developments in the Balkans, with a particular focus on Bosnia and Kosovo.
“I have known President Vučić for many years. But of course, we expect him to provide accountability for what happened a few years ago. For both issues, he promised full accountability,” Rutte stated.
While the discussion focused on the NATO-U.S. agreement on Greenland, Rutte highlighted U.S. commitment to NATO security:
“If anyone thinks that the EU or Europe as a whole can defend itself without the U.S. — they can keep dreaming. We cannot. We need each other,” he said.
