In a video address to the nation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the launch of a large-scale military operation against Iran called “The Lion Awakens,” aimed at neutralizing what he described as an “existential threat” to Israel, reports Rks News.
“We are at a decisive moment in Israel’s history,” Netanyahu said. “Moments ago, Israel began a focused military operation to repel the Iranian threat to our country’s very survival. This operation will continue as long as necessary to eliminate this threat.”
According to Netanyahu, the strikes target Iran’s nuclear facilities, ballistic missile factories, and senior military commanders. He stated that this is only the beginning of a longer campaign to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.
In response to the attacks, Iran has launched over 100 drones towards Israel, expected to strike targets in the coming hours. As a result, Israeli authorities have declared a wide-scale emergency, instructing the population to remain close to shelters.
At the core of this escalation is Iran’s nuclear program, which has long been a subject of international debate and an ongoing security concern for the region.
