The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, after the constitutive session, described the vote of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) for the election of Dimal Basha as Speaker of the Assembly as a “grave mistake.”

He warned that Kosovo may enter a new crisis related to the interpretation of the Constitutional Court regarding the failure to elect a deputy speaker of parliament from the ranks of the non-majority Serbian community.

“I consider it a grave mistake for the two other former opposition parties, PDK and AAK, to hand over Kosovo’s institutions to such a name. However, this is the will of the 73 deputies of the majority. LDK respects this will, but cannot be pleased with the quality of the people representing these institutions.

I believe we will enter another crisis of Constitutional Court interpretation regarding minority seats in the Republic of Kosovo—primarily the Serbian minority—which must have clarity regarding the right to make proposals.

What is unfortunate is that Kosovo, with its institutions, should not remain hostage to Belgrade’s will. We do not participate in matters that we do not consider constitutional in the first place, and for this reason, we maintain a principled position,” Abdixhiku said.
