After the heated meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron held a phone conversation with Zelensky, signaling continued European support for Ukraine.

European leaders have shown solidarity with Zelensky, with Friedrich Merz, leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and likely future German chancellor, expressing unwavering support for Ukraine. He emphasized that “we must never confuse the aggressor and the victim in this terrible war.”

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also took to X to offer her support, praising Zelensky’s dignity and the courage of the Ukrainian people. “You are never alone,” she assured, affirming the EU’s commitment to working for a just and lasting peace.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas remarked, “The free world needs a new leader,” underscoring the critical role Europe must play in confronting this challenge.

Meanwhile, Sir Keir Starmer is hosting a summit for European leaders in the UK this Sunday, with Macron and Zelensky among the key attendees.
