Kyiv, Dec 1 – The newly appointed President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, arrived in Kyiv today, using their first day in office to send a strong message of support to Ukraine in its ongoing war with Russia.

“Since the first day of the war, the EU has stood with Ukraine. From day one of our mandate, we reaffirm our unwavering support for the Ukrainian people,” Costa wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Both Kallas and Costa have been vocal supporters of Ukraine since Russia’s invasion in February 2022. Their visit comes at a critical time as Ukraine faces a fierce Russian offensive and uncertainty regarding US policy under the incoming presidency of Donald Trump.

The European Union has committed approximately $133 billion in aid to Ukraine since the conflict began, according to EU officials.

“In my first visit since taking office, my message is clear: the European Union wants Ukraine to win this war,” Kallas stated on X.
