The Chairman of the New Union of the Kosovo Energy Corporation (SR-KEK), Nexhat Llumnica, reacted with indignation to recent statements from KESCO representatives, describing them as “tendentious, unfounded, and insulting to the dedicated KEK workers.”
In his public response, Llumnica said KESCO’s positions represent “a distortion of facts and an attempt to manipulate public opinion to cover their own managerial and technical failures.”
According to him, even after more than a decade of the concession, KEDS/KESCO has failed to fulfill obligations for the underground installation of the energy network as stipulated in the agreement—except in mountainous areas. “The network remains outdated and unreliable, with frequent outages occurring precisely during hours when electricity prices are highest on the market, which cannot be a coincidence,” the statement reads.
Llumnica also denounced the price at which KEK is paid by KESCO for produced energy, stating that “today, KEK is paid only 29.5 euros per megawatt-hour—a price that does not even cover the minimal production costs.” Meanwhile, citizens pay more just for the network, a practice he calls “absurd and unfair.”
The union leader stressed that KESCO, besides benefiting from energy below cost, “owes KEK over 100 million euros—funds that are the sweat of our workers and remain hostage to irresponsible management.”
In his statement, Llumnica highly appreciates the commitment of KEK employees who, despite technical challenges and outdated infrastructure, “work 24/7 to restore every unit to function with high professionalism.”
“Enough with the slander—KEK workers deserve respect! Instead of reflecting on the lack of investment and the inability to build a functional and safe network, KESCO representatives choose to attack the only institution that has kept the country powered in the hardest times.”
The union calls on citizens not to fall for disinformation, emphasizing that the responsibility for electricity supply lies with KESCO itself, which holds the license since 2013. “SR-KEK will continue to defend the interests and dignity of every worker and contribute to a fair energy system that serves the citizens,” the reaction concludes.
