NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who took over the leadership of the alliance this week, pledged during a visit to Ukraine on Thursday that he would prioritize support for Kyiv.
Three days after taking office, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte visited Kyiv to deliver a clear message.
“NATO supports Ukraine.”
Ukraine seeks to use long-range Western missiles to strike targets inside Russia. However, this is opposed by the United States and other allies, fearing escalation with Moscow.
Rutte clarified his position.
“Striking Russian fighter jets and missiles before they are used against Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure could help save lives.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was asked by journalists whether he feared that his country was slipping from global attention amid the escalation of conflict in the Middle East.
“The best alternative to not forgetting Ukraine is the supply of weapons and granting the proper permissions,” said the Ukrainian president.
Fulfilling these requests will not be easy. On November 5th, American voters will choose a new president, either Republican Donald Trump or Democrat Kamala Harris. Rutte stated that he would work with the next American leader.
