In Brussels, a new round of negotiations at the level of chief negotiators, Besnik Bislimi and Petar Petković, may take place next week—though these reports have yet to be confirmed.
According to the Serbian state news agency “Tanjug,” the meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday, September 17.
The media further claims that Kosovo has rejected a tripartite meeting.
It has been a year since Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić last met face-to-face, despite both expressing support for negotiations.
Their last meeting took place on September 14, 2023.
Ten days after that meeting, an armed attack occurred in Banjskë, where armed Serbian groups killed a Kosovo police officer.
An attempt by the European Union to bring them to the table in June failed due to, as stated, certain conditions imposed by Kurti that Vučić opposed.
When asked about the possibility of such a meeting during a visit to North Mitrovica on September 10, Kurti said, “I don’t know if there will be a meeting.”
“Even if there is, I don’t know when and what the topics will be. We need to know more to provide an answer,” Kurti said, according to REL.
On the same day in Belgrade, Vučić told reporters that “Serbia is always for dialogue” and expressed his willingness to discuss with Kurti “today.”
The EU continuously urges them to resolve open issues through dialogue.
While a new meeting between Kurti and Vučić does not seem on the horizon, Lajčak said last week that an agreement had been reached for a new round of talks between Kosovo’s chief negotiator, Besnik Bislimi, and Serbia’s chief negotiator, Petar Petković, though no specific date was provided.
