The United States Embassy in Montenegro officially opened its new building today in Podgorica. During the opening ceremony, U.S. Ambassador to Montenegro, Judy Rising Reinke, highlighted the building’s significance in reflecting the United States’ respect for Montenegro, noting that the structure was constructed with stone from Nikšić.

“This building represents respect for Montenegro and has been built with stone from Nikšić,” Ambassador Rising Reinke said during her speech. She further emphasized that the U.S. continues to make difficult decisions on issues related to security, energy, and economics.

“The difficult decisions we make will bring prosperity to the U.S., Montenegro, and the entire democratic community,” Rising Reinke added.

Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović also addressed the event, stressing that the new embassy building symbolizes the strong commitment of the U.S. to Montenegro.

“This event is not just ceremonial; it is far more important than that. The principles of democracy, rule of law, and freedom shape our partnership,” Milatović remarked.

He also pointed out that when Montenegro becomes the next member of the European Union, the United States will gain another ally in the European family.

“Even though we are geographically changing, our values remain the same,” said Milatović.

The Director of the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO), Patricia Lesina, said the new embassy building represents a sustainable investment in the relationship between the two countries.

“This project represents a major local economic investment of around 71 million dollars,” Lesina highlighted.

The U.S. government has invested 264 million dollars in the construction of the first phase of the complex. The second phase, currently under development, is expected to complete by 2027, with two remaining buildings to be constructed.

Construction began in 2020.

The new complex, designed to meet the highest standards of efficiency and security, reflects the United States’ ongoing commitment to Montenegro, as stated by the U.S. Embassy.
