New York City has imposed a temporary travel ban as a powerful snowstorm is expected to hit the city of eight million residents.

Mayor Zokhran Mamndani announced that the ban will take effect from 9:00 PM Sunday until noon Monday, warning that roads, highways, and bridges will be closed to traffic except for emergency or essential travel.

“The city has not experienced such severe weather in the past ten years,” Mamndani said, urging residents to avoid all unnecessary travel.

Forecasts predict snow accumulation between 45 and 60 centimeters, with some areas potentially exceeding 70 centimeters. Strong winds are also expected, which could worsen conditions.

Other cities in the US East Coast, such as Boston, are also preparing for the severe winter weather. A similar storm in late January left over 100 people dead in the region.
