Nexhat Daci, a prominent Kosovo politician and former Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, has passed away, it was confirmed on Wednesday. He was one of the key institutional figures of Kosovo’s post-war political life.
Daci served as Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo and also assumed the role of Acting President in 2006, following the death of former President Ibrahim Rugova, at a critical moment for the country’s political stability.
Throughout his career, Daci played an influential role in shaping Kosovo’s parliamentary system during the early years of provisional self-governance. He later founded the Democratic League of Dardania (LDD) and remained politically active even after completing his mandate as head of the legislature.
Colleagues and political figures have described him as a significant institutional actor during a formative period for Kosovo, particularly in the years leading up to the declaration of independence.
Details regarding funeral arrangements and official commemorations are expected to be announced by the family and relevant institutions.
