Students from technical faculties in Niš, joined by numerous citizens, organized a protest march today to commemorate six months since the tragic incident in Novi Sad, where 16 people died after a canopy collapsed. Columns formed at three locations – in front of Elektronska Industrija, Mašinska Industrija, and at the Railway Station – before converging in front of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, where a joint rally was held.

The protest was initiated by an informal group of students who had previously called on citizens to join the march, as reported by Južne vesti and N1.

During the march, participants chanted slogans urging relevant institutions to respect the law and reminding them that “no one is above the law.”

A special message was directed at the President of Serbia, demanding that he call elections. Protesters recalled that the President himself had previously stated he would do so whenever the opposition requested it.

Throughout the march to the designated gathering point, citizens showed their support for the protesters, with car horns honking, pots and pans being banged from balconies, and the procession being met with applause.
