Amid growing political discontent, students protesting at the University of Niš have issued a strong public call to President Aleksandar Vučić to dissolve the National Assembly and call snap parliamentary elections.

Citing a deepening socio-political crisis and what they perceive as a severely damaged democratic environment, the students are demanding an immediate response to what they call a legitimacy crisis in the current parliamentary composition.

“Considering the current socio-political crisis, where the democratic atmosphere is severely disrupted and the legitimacy of the current parliament is in question, we demand that you use your constitutional authority to end this crisis by calling extraordinary parliamentary elections,” the students posted on their official Instagram account.

A Direct Appeal to Restore Public Trust

The student body insists that elections are the only democratic mechanism capable of restoring public trust and validating the will of the people.

“Elections are the only democratic tool to verify the will of the citizens and renew confidence in public institutions,” the students emphasized.

They further warned that any delay in calling elections would be perceived as evading political responsibility, and a sign of fear, uncertainty, and lack of confidence in one’s own legitimacy.

A Youth-Led Political Challenge

This latest action places youth voices at the center of Serbia’s political discourse, raising questions about institutional credibility and public engagement. The blockade at the University of Niš signals a growing wave of grassroots political mobilization across the country.
