NISMA Socialdemokrate has indicated that its recent meeting with the acting Prime Minister and leader of Vetëvendosje, Albin Kurti, did not yield significant progress towards a governing agreement. While Kurti had expressed readiness for co-governance and presented a new offer, NISMA states there’s currently no rapprochement on the table.

Limaj as Parliament Speaker Remains Key Demand

According to a statement to Gazeta Sinjali, NISMA maintained its proposal for party leader Fatmir Limaj to serve as Speaker of the Parliament. However, this proposition was not accepted by Vetëvendosje.

“We believe that Fatmir Limaj as Speaker of the Assembly is in the interest of LVV, as well as the entire political scene in general. Chairman Limaj has built bridges of cooperation throughout his political career with entities represented in the Assembly,” NISMA stated.

The party confirmed, “In the last meeting, there was no agreement on this topic, and NISMA received another offer from LVV; currently, we cannot say there are any approximations.”

Kurti Hopes for Resolution This Week Amidst Constitutional Concerns

Despite the lack of agreement on specific proposals, both parties are open to further meetings. Kurti, whose party won the February elections, expressed hope on Monday that discussions with Limaj’s party would be finalized this week. “This weekend we will have news about the agreement reached or its absence,” Kurti declared.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, President Vjosa Osmani announced she has formally approached the Constitutional Court seeking an interpretation of the legal consequences if the new Assembly is not constituted within its 30-day constitutional deadline. Osmani described the situation as unprecedented in Kosovo’s political life, noting that the lack of consensus has created a legally ambiguous situation. She expressed hope that the Constitutional Court would prioritize this critical issue.
