Fatmir Matoshi, a member of the presidency of the Social Democratic Initiative (NISMA), has stated that the party continues to insist on Fatmir Limaj as the candidate for Speaker of the Assembly, even after Limaj’s meeting with Vetëvendosje (LVV) leader Albin Kurti.

In an interview with RTV21, Matoshi emphasized that Limaj remains the most suitable candidate in the current political context and that LVV should reflect accordingly to reach a consensus.

“Although I am not directly involved in the negotiations, NISMA’s position is clear. We believe Mr. Limaj is the best choice—not just for NISMA, but for LVV and other parliamentary parties—due to his political experience. We’re not insisting out of self-interest; we genuinely see the Assembly Speaker position as the most appropriate for our party. We have conveyed this clearly to LVV,” Matoshi stated.

He added that NISMA has shown a spirit of cooperation and willingness to find solutions, and he remains hopeful that LVV will respond positively so that a Speaker can be elected who fosters cooperation and compromise in the new legislature.

Asked whether NISMA is open to other government roles besides the Assembly Speaker, Matoshi responded that the party is not seeking ministerial posts.

“The right to propose a candidate belongs to them, but so does the responsibility to secure a majority. NISMA is not interested in government positions. The fact that we have not asked for ministries and have only sought to lead the Assembly is already a major compromise. We will continue discussions in the coming days to find the best possible solution,” Matoshi concluded.
