The Coreper II meeting — comprising the Permanent Representatives of the 27 European Union member states — concluded without a breakthrough in trade tariff negotiations with the United States.

European Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, who attended the session, briefed diplomats on his recent visit to the U.S. and the contacts held over the weekend with American negotiators. Despite intensive discussions, no final outcome was achieved.

“For the moment, there is no agreement,” diplomatic sources confirmed at the close of the meeting.

EU officials stated that talks between Brussels and Washington will continue this week, with another round of negotiations scheduled for Wednesday.

The matter holds particular significance for EU-U.S. trade relations amid growing tensions over industrial policies and subsidies that affect transatlantic competition.
