The Kosovo Judicial Council has completed its verification process for candidates running in the February 9th elections, confirming that none of the candidates have violated the Law on General Elections.

According to a statement from the Central Election Commission (KQZ), all 1,280 candidates from 28 political parties are in full compliance with the legal requirements for candidacy. Valmir Elezi, spokesperson for KQZ, clarified that no candidates have been convicted with a final judicial decision for criminal offenses that would disqualify them under Kosovo’s election laws.

Specifically, Article 30 of the Law on General Elections prohibits individuals convicted of crimes punishable by two or more years of imprisonment from running for office. The Judicial Council confirmed that all candidates have cleared this legal threshold.

So far, the KQZ has certified 11 political parties and 606 candidates for the upcoming elections, while an additional 17 political parties and 674 candidates are still undergoing verification. Elezi noted that the final recommendations for the remaining candidates will be issued soon.

The KQZ is also cooperating with the Kosovo Judicial Council, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure a clear and reliable candidate certification process.
