Marta Kos has emphasized that countries aspiring to join the European Union must be strong and resilient democracies capable of resisting external influence, particularly from Russia.
Kos stressed that the EU cannot accept states that might undermine the Union from within.
“No Trojan horses. Countries that could harm us from the inside cannot become members of the European Union. We must be absolutely certain about this. States joining the EU must be strong democracies—capable of resisting the toxic influence of Russia and others,” she wrote on X.
According to her, the enlargement process requires deep and sustainable reforms, adding that there can be no shortcuts for countries seeking EU membership.
