The signing ceremony of the “Peace Board” by U.S. President Donald Trump featured representatives from fewer than 20 countries, with none of the traditional U.S. allies from Western Europe present.
The nations represented on stage in Davos leaned heavily toward the Middle East and South America, with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Argentina, and Paraguay among those attending.
“We are truly honored by your presence today,” Trump said, referring to the attendees as “in most cases very popular leaders, in some cases not so popular.”
The total number of participants was less than the roughly 35 that a senior administration official had projected for journalists earlier in the week.
Western European countries were notably absent, some of whom have expressed concerns about the idea of a peace board that could include adversaries such as Russia, which is currently at war with one of their allies.
