US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that North Korea tested a missile during his visit to Seoul on January 6.
According to Blinken, this action by Pyongyang serves as a reminder of the need to strengthen cooperation between Washington, South Korea, and Japan to counter North Korea.
North Korea launched a medium-range ballistic missile around midday, local time, which flew over 1,100 kilometers east before falling into the sea, the South Korean military reported.
“Today’s test is a reminder to all of us of how important our cooperation is,” emphasized the American diplomat.
Blinken also warned against the deepening ties between Pyongyang and Moscow.
He stated that Washington believes Russia is seeking to share space and satellite technology with North Korea in exchange for support in the war in Ukraine, where more than 1,000 North Korean soldiers are reported to have been killed or injured.
US President Joe Biden, who is finishing his term this month, has strengthened cooperation with South Korea and Japan, despite disagreements between the Asian neighbors.
Both political unrest in South Korea and the potential return of Donald Trump to the White House have raised questions about whether this collaboration will continue, reports REL.
