The U.S. government has approved a major arms sale to Norway, involving the purchase of nine HH-60 multi-mission helicopters (Sikorsky), including medevac variants, alongside associated equipment and support services, totaling $2.6 billion.
As a NATO member and neighbor to Russia, Norway is expected to significantly enhance its defense and security capabilities through this strategic acquisition.
“This sale will improve Norway’s ability to meet current and future threats by strengthening its airborne combat and special operations capabilities,” the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) stated in a press release.
The DSCA further emphasized that Norway will use these helicopters not only for national defense but also to support other NATO allies. The integration of the aircraft into Norway’s armed forces is expected to proceed smoothly.
