November is a month of celebration for the Albanian nation. Following yesterday’s commemoration of the Declaration of Independence, today, November 29, Albania celebrates Liberation Day, marking the country’s freedom from Nazi-fascist occupation.

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama shared a photo from the “Mother Albania” monument, located at the entrance of the National Martyrs’ Cemetery.

“Good morning, and with best wishes for the national celebration of liberation, I wish you all a peaceful weekend,” Rama wrote in a Facebook post.

Albania was fully liberated on November 29, 1944. This symbolic date marks not only the liberation of Shkodër but officially of all Albania from Nazi-fascist occupiers.

As such, Albania became the only country in the Balkans to achieve liberation through its own efforts.
