Number of New Businesses Increases, 1,000 Registered in December Alone

During December of last year, a total of 1,000 new businesses were registered. Compared to the previous month, the number of newly registered businesses recorded an increase of 8.8%, while compared to December of the previous year, registrations rose by 6%.

The most preferred economic activities during this month were wholesale and retail trade, including the repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, with 252 businesses (25.2%). This was followed by professional, scientific, and technical activities with 120 businesses (12%), accommodation and food services with 110 businesses (11%), and manufacturing with 99 businesses (9.9%).

In terms of business size, micro-enterprises (0–9 employees) dominated, with 988 registered businesses. In the category of small enterprises (10–49 employees), 12 businesses were registered, while no medium or large enterprises were registered during this month.

Regarding geographical distribution by region, the Pristina Region led with 500 registered businesses (50%), followed by the Prizren Region with 105 (10.5%), the Gjilan Region with 99 (9.9%), the Ferizaj Region with 87 (8.7%), the Mitrovica Region with 85 (8.5%), the Gjakova Region with 65 (6.5%), and the Peja Region with 59 (5.9%).

However, December was not marked only by new business registrations. According to data from the Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS), a total of 135 businesses ceased operations during the same month.
