The Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (NUNS) has called for an immediate halt to the endangerment, obstruction, and targeting of journalists and media outlets, condemning recent incidents.
According to NUNS, Miloš Vučević, president of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), made serious accusations against Dinko Gruhonjić, a journalist, professor, and program director at the Independent Journalists’ Association of Vojvodina (NDNV), claiming that alleged attacks by Gruhonjić on President Aleksandar Vučić represented attacks on Serbia’s constitutional order and independence. NUNS emphasized that such statements by public officials are unacceptable in a democratic society and seriously threaten Gruhonjić’s safety.
The statement also highlighted a recent incident in Kula, where a team from Nova TV experienced obstruction while reporting on activists who had poured red paint on a student group’s stand. Police officers reportedly warned journalists not to film, representing a continuation of rough treatment of media workers during events of public interest.
Additionally, NUNS noted that the Instagram account of the Čačak portal Ozon Press was temporarily suspended for 180 days due to alleged community guideline violations. The account was later restored after the editorial team contacted Meta. NUNS warned that such actions are part of a broader pattern of digital sabotage through coordinated reports and bot activity, which threatens media freedom and expression.
NUNS affirmed that it will continue monitoring these cases and provide full support to journalists facing constant pressure, threats, and working conditions where their societal role is not recognized.
