In a closing conference on “Generational Equality – United Against Gender-Based Violence,” Deputy Ambassador of the UK to Kosovo, Paul O’Connor, emphasized that gender inequality “threatens women’s lives and well-being.” He highlighted alarming statistics, noting that one in three women worldwide experiences physical or sexual violence during their lifetime.

O’Connor stressed that gender-based violence begins at a young age, with one in five underage girls marrying globally. Women with disabilities are four times more likely to experience violence, and 70% of women in conflict zones face gender-based violence. Additionally, 85% of women experience online violence.

O’Connor’s comments underscore the significant work still needed to combat these issues. Abetare Gojani, Director of “The Foundation House,” shared insights into their project addressing gender-based violence in Kosovo. She noted the importance of empowering survivors to break the silence and overcoming stigma. “Every woman deserves to live without fear, and every girl should grow up knowing her voice matters,” Gojani said.
