The Ombudsperson presented the 2023 Annual Report on the implementation of the Law on Protection from Discrimination to the Kosovo Assembly on Wednesday.

According to the Ombudsperson, the report highlights several key issues, including the low institutional awareness regarding the necessity of collecting data and documenting discrimination cases.

The report points to the absence of some key elements in the overall system for preventing and protecting against discrimination, as well as the lack of enforcement of administrative procedures for discrimination cases and inadequate implementation of the Law by the courts.

Additionally, the Ombudsperson emphasized that the lack of institutional evidence on legal violations does not necessarily reflect the real situation, as reports and complaints about discrimination in both the public and private sectors remain frequent.

The report includes six specific and practical recommendations aimed at improving the implementation of the law and ensuring more effective protection against discrimination.

This report has been supported by the Council of Europe.
