Dubai has unveiled a new contactless immigration system at its international airport, allowing passengers to pass through border control simply by walking down a “red-carpet corridor” without presenting any documentation.
The smart tunnel system, currently operational in the Business Class Departures Hall of Terminal 3, uses artificial intelligence–enabled biometric technology to automatically verify passengers’ identities.
“We essentially use biometric data stored in our systems to verify every passenger using the service with their profile when they arrive at the immigration checkpoint,” airport authorities said.
Officials stated that Dubai plans to expand this technology to other terminals and to Al Maktoum International Airport in the future.
“Currently, it is available only in Terminal 3, Business Class Departures Hall, but we plan to extend the service to other terminals and to Al Maktoum International Airport in the future,” the airport authorities added.
