On Europe Day, the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, called on the European Union to lift the punitive measures imposed on her country, stressing that they are unjust and obstruct Kosovo’s future in the European Union.
In a statement marking May 9th, Osmani stated that this day represents Kosovo’s unwavering commitment to the European project, despite the challenges the country has faced.
“For the people of Kosovo, this day represents a testament to our steadfast commitment, as we believe in Europe, despite the challenges and injustices we have encountered on this journey,” the president said.
She urged the EU to take a fair and balanced approach by removing the sanctions against Kosovo and to act against the destabilizing policies of Serbia, citing Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s choice to mark Europe Day in Moscow, with President Vladimir Putin.
“On this significant day, it is important to raise our voice to demand the removal of the EU’s unjust measures against Kosovo and to address the destabilizing policies of Serbia, which became even more evident when Vučić chose to mark Europe Day in Moscow, with Putin, who today jeopardizes the stability and security of our continent,” Osmani emphasized.
The president concluded her statement with a call to end the punitive measures against Kosovo and stop tolerating Serbia’s pro-Russian policies.
“For the dream of Europeans for a whole, free, and united Europe to be fully realized, punitive policies against the most pro-European people must end, and accommodating policies towards Russia-friendly Serbia must be stopped,” Osmani wrote.
