For the first time in the history of independent Kosovo, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa arrived in Pristina today for an official visit.
Deputy Prime Minister Donika Gërvalla deemed the visit a milestone in the further development and strengthening of Kosovo-Japan relations.
Gërvalla informed Kamikawa about Kosovo’s achievements in democracy, rule of law, civil liberties, and political rights.
She also highlighted Kosovo’s recent sustainable economic development and expressed her delight at Kosovo’s participation in EXPO 2025, which will be held in Osaka, Japan.
Gërvalla emphasized that this event would provide an extraordinary opportunity for business connections between the two countries, essential for deepening economic cooperation.
The meeting also included discussions on recent developments and the need for democratic countries to come closer together, especially in the current geopolitical context where autocratic tendencies are rising and becoming increasingly aggressive.
Gërvalla briefed Kamikawa on Serbia’s destabilizing actions in the region, including the September 24 terrorist attack in Kosovo, and the difficulties in the Brussels dialogue process due to Belgrade’s approach.
