Just a day after attending the Ukraine–Southeast Europe Summit in Kyiv, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has sent a congratulatory letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of “Russia Day,” Rks News reports.

In the letter, published by Serbian media, Vučić personally thanked Putin for Russia’s support of Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasizing the vital importance of this issue for Serbia’s national and state interests.

“I believe the friendly relations between our two countries and our comprehensive cooperation will continue to develop successfully,” Vučić wrote in the letter to the Kremlin.

Meanwhile, the European Commission welcomed Vučić’s visit to Ukraine, calling it a “significant signal” at a time when Serbia’s stance on the war in Ukraine has drawn mixed reactions across Europe.

It’s worth noting that Vučić also attended the Victory Day ceremonies in Moscow on May 9, becoming one of the few European leaders to participate in the event—an appearance that drew criticism from EU officials.
