One person has died and two others were injured after a tram derailed at a tram station near the National Museum in Sarajevo, according to the Operational Headquarters of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Interior.
Accident Occurred During Morning Hours
Authorities confirmed that the incident took place during the late morning hours, prompting an immediate emergency response. Police, emergency medical teams, and firefighters quickly arrived at the scene to provide assistance and secure the area.
Investigation Underway
The Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor’s Office announced that an official investigation is ongoing, with experts in mechanical engineering and traffic safety engaged to determine the cause of the derailment.
“More information will be available after investigative procedures are completed,” authorities stated.
Significant Damage and Traffic Disruptions
Images from the scene show that the derailment caused severe structural damage, nearly destroying the entire tram station. As a result, public transportation toward the city center has been completely suspended, causing major traffic disruptions in the area.
