At least one person has been killed and ten others injured overnight in Ukraine’s capital following a wave of Russian air attacks, city military authorities reported.

A kindergarten in the Dniprovskiy district was damaged, while large fires broke out in non-residential areas of the Desnianskiy and Darnytskiy districts.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia carried out a mixed assault across the country overnight, launching:

  • 9 Iskander-M ballistic missiles from the Rostov and Kursk regions
  • 62 attack drones from multiple directions, including Kursk, Oryol in Russia and Hvardiiske in occupied Crimea

The Ukrainian air defense shot down 4 missiles and 50 drones, while the army confirmed strikes on 11 locations, with assessments still ongoing.

This escalation coincides with a new diplomatic signal from Moscow. Kirill Dmitriev, special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin for investment and economic cooperation, said he believes the U.S., Ukraine, and Russia are “quite close” to a diplomatic solution.

Dmitriev is currently in the United States, and U.S. media report he will meet with President Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, in Miami on October 25.
