It has been a year since they last sat face-to-face, despite both sides expressing support for negotiations. The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, last met on September 14, 2023.

Ten days after that meeting, the armed attack in Banjskë occurred, where armed Serbian groups killed a Kosovo police officer.

An attempt by the European Union to bring them to the negotiating table in June failed due to certain conditions set by Kurti, which Vučić opposed.

When asked about the possibility of a new meeting during a visit to North Mitrovica on September 10, Kurti said, “I don’t know if there will be a meeting.”

“Even if there is, I don’t know when or what the topics will be. We need to know more to provide an answer,” Kurti said, according to REL.

On the same day in Belgrade, Vučić told journalists that “Serbia is always open to dialogue” and expressed his willingness to meet with Kurti today if possible.

The EU continues to urge both sides to resolve open issues through dialogue.

While a new meeting between Kurti and Vučić does not appear to be on the horizon, Lajčak stated last week that an agreement has been reached for a new round of talks between Kosovo’s chief negotiator, Besnik Bislimi, and Serbia’s chief negotiator, Petar Petković, but no specific date was provided.
