A major operation was carried out today by the Peja Prosecution in Peja, as well as in Klina, Istog, and Deçan. The prosecution itself provided details, confirming that the action took place at twenty different locations. It was conducted with the assistance of the Labor Inspectorate and in coordination with the Kosovo Police.
The statement emphasized that the operation targeted construction sites of collective housing projects, focusing on worker safety and protection of life at the workplace by the contracted companies.
The action was led by the Chief Prosecutor of the Basic Prosecution in Peja, Lumturije Vuçetaj, with the support of nine state prosecutors and sixty police officers from the Peja Regional Police Directorate.
As a result, responsible company representatives were taken to police stations, and seven construction sites were shut down—two in Peja, three in Istog, one in Klina, and one in Deçan.
Additionally, in cases where elements of criminal offenses were identified, investigations were initiated under the charge of “Destruction, damage, or removal of protective equipment and endangering safety at the workplace” as defined by the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.
The prosecution also notified relevant institutions to take legal measures and prepare reports regarding building permits, unlawful works, and other potential violations. These findings will be submitted to the Basic Prosecution in Peja.
It is worth noting that between January and June 2025, the Basic Prosecution in Peja received 19 cases concerning workplace safety violations. Unfortunately, three workers lost their lives at their workplaces, while sixteen others suffered serious bodily injuries.
The Prosecution reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the safety and health of every worker and citizen. It also encouraged the public to cooperate with the Prosecution or the Kosovo Police by reporting such cases, so that lawbreakers can be prosecuted and brought to justice
