Viktor Orbán announced that Hungary will stop sending natural gas to Ukraine, cutting off a key energy supply route for the war-affected country and deepening tensions between Kyiv and Budapest over disrupted Russian oil deliveries.

“We will gradually stop supplying natural gas from Hungary to Ukraine and preserve the remaining gas domestically,” Orbán said in a video posted on social media.

“As long as Ukraine does not supply oil, it will not receive gas from Hungary,” he added.

Russian oil supplies to Hungary and Slovakia have been disrupted for nearly two months after, according to Ukrainian officials, Russian drone attacks damaged the Druzhba pipeline, which runs through Ukrainian territory.

Leaders of Hungary and Slovakia—unlike most European Union countries—continue to import Russian fossil fuels and have accused Ukraine of deliberately obstructing supply routes.
