Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Saturday that Russia’s leadership is “hyper rational” and that Ukraine would never be able to fulfill hopes of becoming a member of the European Union or NATO.

Orban, a nationalist in power since 2010, made the comments during a speech in which he predicted a shift of global power from the west that he called “irrational” to Asia and Russia, Reuters reports.

The Hungarian Prime Minister has emphasized that in the coming decades, Asia will be the dominant center of the world, and has mentioned China, India, Pakistan and Indonesia as major global powers.

Orban, whose country currently holds the EU presidency, maintains closer ties to Beijing and Moscow. Last week, he angered some EU leaders when he made surprise visits to Kiev, Moscow and Beijing for talks on the war in Ukraine.
