Leaders of the European Union and the Western Balkans met today in Brussels for a summit, where they agreed, through a final declaration, to accelerate the enlargement process and urged countries in the region to resolve their disputes.

Kosovo’s President, Vjosa Osmani, attended the summit and stated today that “The EU-Western Balkans summit remains an important platform for our region.”

Full statement from Osmani:

“The EU-Western Balkans summit remains an important platform for our region. Therefore, in discussions with leaders of EU institutions and member states, I emphasized the following:

  • Kosovo’s future in the EU is inevitable and remains a daily commitment for us;
  • If the principle of meritocracy is respected, as proclaimed, concrete steps should be taken in this journey, starting with the immediate processing of our application for membership and the removal of unjust and non-European measures against Kosovo;
  • There cannot be successful integration of the Western Balkans if peace and security are constantly at risk. Therefore, Serbia’s accountability for the ongoing acts of aggression against Kosovo is key;
  • Despite the challenges, Kosovo will not give up on its integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions, as above all, this is the will of our people.”
