At the Berlin Global Dialogue leaders’ session, President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani emphasized Kosovo’s vital role as a strategic partner of the European Union and its contribution to the continent’s democratic and security architecture.
Osmani highlighted that Kosovo brings to the European family a partner that, from its own experience, understands the dangers posed by harmful forces and stands ready to defend democratic values.
She stressed that the integration of the Western Balkans into the EU must be based on merit, not on political convenience.
“Merit-based integration of the Western Balkans is not an act of charity, but a strategic choice for all of Europe,” Osmani declared.
According to her, Kosovo contributes innovation, energy, and youthful talent—qualities Europe needs to remain competitive and cohesive.
“Our country’s resilience and commitment to principles, despite malign interference, help build a shield of security for the entire continent,” she added.
Osmani also reflected on NATO’s intervention in Kosovo, noting that “it was not only power that mattered, but the principle behind it—the one that saved human lives.”
Addressing global challenges, the president reaffirmed Kosovo’s support for Ukraine, stressing that the country stands shoulder to shoulder with Kyiv, contributes to NATO missions abroad, and has imposed sanctions on Russia.
“For us, values are not a luxury—they are a strategic asset that keeps a nation alive when everything else is uncertain,” Osmani said.
In conclusion, she reiterated Kosovo’s commitment to democracy, global cooperation, and empowerment of women and youth through the ‘Women, Peace, and Security’ agenda.
