Today, the head of state, Vjosa Osmani, held a meeting with Michael Reiffenstuel, Director for the Western Balkans at the German Federal Foreign Office.
The discussion focused on the formation of institutions and Kosovo’s position in the international arena.
“President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, met today with Michael Reiffenstuel, Director for the Western Balkans at the German Federal Foreign Office, with whom she discussed recent developments in the country and the region, focusing particularly on the constitution of the parliament. They also discussed further strengthening bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and enhancing Kosovo’s position on the international stage,” the statement reads.
It was also announced that Osmani confirmed Kosovo’s readiness for deep cooperation with the government of Chancellor Merz.
“Osmani appreciated Germany’s vital role in defending democratic values, the transatlantic unity, and European security. President Osmani emphasized that Germany has been and remains a strategic pillar for Kosovo in maintaining regional stability and advancing Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic path. Furthermore, the president requested Berlin’s continued support for Kosovo’s full international integration, particularly in the Council of Europe, recognizing Germany’s role in the council and the importance of this process for strengthening democratic institutions and protecting human rights,” the statement continues.
During the meeting, Osmani also stressed the necessity of advancing Kosovo towards NATO membership, clearly elaborating on the contribution such membership would have in guaranteeing long-term security and stability in the region and Europe.
Regarding the EU-mediated dialogue process, Osmani emphasized the need for strategic clarity, defined timelines, and clear objectives, underlining that normalization implies mutual recognition and respect for Kosovo’s territorial integrity and constitutional order.
Osmani also spoke about the importance of the complete removal of unjust measures, stressing that Germany can play a significant role in this regard.
