President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani will meet today with political party leaders to consult on setting the date for new elections, following the failure of the second Vetëvendosje nominee to secure the necessary majority for forming the new government.
The LDK spokesperson, Besian Mustafa, confirmed that the meeting will begin at 10:30, and that the party will participate. Vetëvendosje and NISMA have also confirmed their attendance.
This meeting comes just one day after Glauk Konjufca failed to gather sufficient support to become the country’s next prime minister.
During Tuesday’s parliamentary session, only 56 deputies voted in favor of Vetëvendosje’s proposal for forming the new government, 4 abstained, while 53 voted against, leaving the nomination far short of the required majority.
As a result of this failure, Kosovo is now heading toward early parliamentary elections, a development that underscores the ongoing political instability and the inability of key parties to reach a functioning governing majority.
President Osmani’s consultations today are expected to formalize the next steps and confirm the official election date, marking the beginning of another crucial electoral process for the country.
