The Kosovo Police have launched a criminal investigation after a death threat was sent via the official email address of the Presidency to President Vjosa Osmani.
According to Reporteri.net, the threatening message was received on April 15, the same day President Osmani began political consultations with party leaders in an effort to resolve the ongoing institutional deadlock.
“Kosovo Police received the information in question a few days ago. In accordance with standard procedures, the State Prosecutor was notified and a criminal case has been initiated,” the police confirmed in a statement to Reporteri.net.
Despite the severity of the incident, the Prosecutor’s Office has not yet issued a public statement regarding the case.
Presidential advisor Bekim Kupina condemned the threat and revealed that such incidents against President Osmani have become a recurring concern, with little to no legal consequences for the perpetrators.
“Despite dozens of threats — most of them death threats — no action has been taken against the individuals responsible for years. Many of these threats are made using full names and traceable profiles. Some have even occurred live on television shows,” Kupina said.
He emphasized that the failure to address these threats seriously has created a dangerous climate.
“When serious threats go unpunished, they are not only ignored but effectively encouraged. This toxic environment inspires others to follow the same pattern: inciting violence, calling for physical elimination, and showing complete disregard for the constitutional order,” he added.
The explicit email, sent on April 15, included vulgar and threatening language, reportedly targeting the President and urging political elimination. The message coincided with her outreach to political party leaders in search of a solution to the current political impasse.
Authorities are continuing their investigation, but as of now, no arrests or charges have been made public.
