During her official visit to the Swiss Federal Palace, Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani expressed deep appreciation for the warm welcome extended by the Swiss delegation and delivered a heartfelt message to the Albanian diaspora.

Osmani highlighted Switzerland’s unwavering support for Kosovo during its darkest times, underscoring the country’s enduring spirit of solidarity.

“This is the spirit with which the people of Switzerland and this wonderful country stood by Kosovo during its most difficult times, and also in its most hopeful days. Just as this country once offered refuge to brilliant minds like Albert Einstein and Thomas Mann, and to a young girl named Madeleine Albright—who later became the U.S. Secretary of State—hundreds of thousands of Kosovars found shelter here during the darkest chapter of our history. Today, hundreds of thousands of citizens of Kosovar origin live in this country.”

She emphasized the shared journey and evolving partnership between the two peoples:

“From change, we have built common ground and shared dreams. Together, we have formed a special partnership—rich in friendship and in human connections. The children of those who once came as refugees are now doctors, engineers, artists, and entrepreneurs. Every day, they contribute to the prosperity of their new home.”

Osmani made special mention of football star Xherdan Shaqiri, noting his key role in Basel and Switzerland, and addressed a direct message to Albanians living in Switzerland:

“No matter your profession, your background, or the size of your platform, be a force for good. Be a living example of what positive integration looks like. Living in this country is not just a privilege—it is a responsibility.”

In a separate post on Facebook, President Osmani also thanked the Albanian diaspora in Switzerland for their continued contributions and engagement with Kosovo.
