Following her meeting with European Council President Antonio Costa, President Vjosa Osmani called on the European Union to lift the punitive measures currently imposed on Kosovo.

Osmani urged the EU to pave the way for Kosovo’s membership in the bloc and demanded the removal of the sanctions, which she stated are directly harming Kosovar citizens.

“We hope that the member states will finally agree to lift the measures that are harming our citizens. Every minute more with these measures is an obstacle to the realization of the European dream. It is time for Kosovo’s application to be treated with priority and for the European Commission to be mandated to review it,” President Osmani stated.

She emphasized that Kosovo’s membership application should not remain “an archived document” but should be transformed into an active process towards full integration into the European family.

Osmani commended the vision of the European Council President regarding EU enlargement as a strategically important project that, according to her, strengthens peace across the continent.

President Osmani stressed that the need for bold steps in this direction is no longer just an opportunity but a necessity. “It is time for this to be reflected beyond words, through concrete steps,” the President concluded.
