Vjosa Osmani, President of Kosovo, marked the country’s Independence Day with a series of tributes honoring historic leaders, war victims, and national heroes, emphasizing unity, remembrance, and the preservation of Kosovo’s statehood legacy.

In a commemorative message, Osmani paid special tribute to Ibrahim Rugova, widely regarded as the architect of Kosovo’s peaceful resistance and vision for independence. She also honored Adem Demaçi, describing him as a lasting symbol of justice, courage, and unwavering resistance.

The president further highlighted the legacy of the heroic family of legendary commander Adem Jashari, whose sacrifice during the war remains one of the most powerful symbols of Kosovo’s struggle for freedom.

Osmani emphasized that Kosovo’s national flag represents the sacrifice of generations and the bravery of fighters from the Kosovo Liberation Army, as well as the enduring legacy left by those who gave their lives for the country’s independence. She stressed that maintaining the values of freedom and sovereignty remains a shared responsibility for current and future generations.

During the commemorative activities, Osmani and accompanying delegations also paid respects at memorial plaques dedicated to children killed during the Kosovo war, underscoring what she described as a collective national pain and a continued commitment to justice. Tributes were also held for individuals who were forcibly disappeared during the conflict, with Osmani reaffirming institutional efforts to clarify their fate and support their families.

“Today, the flag of Kosovo flies over every city and village,” Osmani stated, calling on citizens to continue honoring the sacrifices of national heroes and to carry forward their legacy with pride, courage, and love for the homeland.

She concluded her message with a symbolic patriotic dedication: “Long live forever, our beloved Kosovo.”
