On the eve of the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, President Vjosa Osmani of the Republic of Kosovo awarded the Presidential Medal of Merit to the Mothers of Srebrenica, in recognition of their courage, resilience, and unyielding pursuit of justice.

The awards were presented during the third edition of the International Forum on Women, Peace, and Security, held in Prishtina — a global gathering aimed at highlighting the critical role of women in peacebuilding and conflict resolution.

Symbolic Recognition of Strength and Memory

President Osmani’s gesture carries deep symbolic weight, honoring the thousands of women who lost sons, husbands, and family members in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre, the worst atrocity in Europe since World War II.

This act not only underscores Kosovo’s solidarity with the victims of war crimes but also affirms the region’s shared history of suffering and resistance.
