President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, provided additional details regarding her meeting with the European Union envoy, Peter Sorensen, about the draft statute of the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities. Speaking to reporters, President Osmani said she reiterated the point about the inconsistency of the draft with the Constitution of Kosovo, as reported by Rks News.
“We had the EU representative, Sorensen, who is having his initial meetings. What I said in the last meeting is the same I’ve said from the beginning of the dialogue. The process has lacked balance, the parties have not been treated equally, and this has not only harmed Kosovo’s position in this process, as the constructive party, but also damaged the credibility of the EU as a mediator in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
The second issue that I have reiterated, and which is a consistent stance, is the comment on the draft statute of the Association, which I raised initially when it was proposed by the EU and now as well: a comment on the inconsistency of the draft with the Constitution of Kosovo. These are not technical comments because a president does not make technical remarks, but substantial ones, regarding the risk that certain provisions of that draft statute might harm the internal functionality of Kosovo,” said President Osmani.
