The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, is currently on an official visit to Japan, where she participated in the official events marking Kosovo Day at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka.

During the opening ceremony of this special day, President Osmani was received by Naoki Okada, Japan’s Minister in charge of Expo Osaka 2025. In her speech, Osmani highlighted Kosovo’s Liberation Day, which will be marked tomorrow, and emphasized the strong cooperation between Kosovo and Japan.

“Japan’s support for our people, especially after the war and during many stages of reconstruction, will never be forgotten. It has laid a strong foundation of friendship and partnership that we cherish today — a friendship built on shared values and our common vision for the future,” said Osmani, underscoring the importance of this partnership.

She added:

“As Kosovo continues its path of development and international engagement, we look forward to a deepened partnership across institutions, academia, businesses, and culture.”

Japanese Minister Naoki Okada also addressed the event, emphasizing the ongoing strengthening of relations between the two countries. He also acknowledged Kosovo’s international sporting success in judo, applauding the achievements of Kosovar athletes.

“Since Japan recognized Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state in 2008, it has continuously supported the country — particularly since 2018, through various economic collaborations and efforts toward national development, peace, and stability in the region, and Kosovo’s path toward the EU,” said Okada.

The official opening ceremony of Kosovo Day was also accompanied by a special concert by the Kosovo Philharmonic, adding a cultural dimension to this important event in the relationship between the two nations.
