Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani stated today that she would not rush to predict a failure in forming a new government, emphasizing that political parties continue discussions behind closed doors, often revealed to the public very late.
“Citizens voted to have institutions, not to return to elections,” Osmani said in a press briefing.
She added that if no party succeeds in forming a government, a date for new elections would be set, but she cannot assume that the process will fail.
“I would not rush to make assumptions about the government formation failing. There is still some time. Let’s see,” she said.
Reflecting on her own political experience, Osmani explained that coalition negotiations frequently happen privately.
“Most of these discussions between political parties occur behind closed doors. Often, you only learn about them much later. Sometimes even we within the parties learned about them very late,” she noted.
Osmani stressed that just because the public is unaware of the efforts, it doesn’t mean negotiations aren’t happening.
“I cannot judge whether the efforts are sufficient, because as President I do not intervene in party discussions. All I can do is wish them full success in forming a government that will make decisions in the interest of the citizens,” she concluded.
