During the Change of Command ceremony at KFOR Headquarters, President Vjosa Osmani reaffirmed Kosovo’s clear aspiration to join NATO, emphasizing that this goal is not merely strategic but represents the identity of the country.
“Today, as historically, the people of Kosovo have always stood for the values of freedom, democracy, and collective security. This is why our aspiration to join NATO is not only a strategic choice, but a reflection of who we are,” Osmani stated.
She highlighted that in times of rising threats to peace, the alliance is stronger when standing alongside committed partners, as Kosovo has consistently demonstrated through resilience, reforms, and determination.
“We will continue this alongside our allies, because only together can we ensure that the peace achieved through struggle today becomes the sustainable peace of tomorrow,” she added.
Addressing challenges facing the state, Osmani warned of efforts by some countries to undo Kosovo’s achievements and reverse the progress made:
“There are countries attempting to undo all that Kosovo has accomplished and turn the nation back in time. Partnership cannot be given to those committing aggression against neighbors. Only through resilience and clarity can we protect peace, stability, and the future we all desire.”
President Osmani concluded by emphasizing that Kosovo’s foundational values align with those of NATO and Western allies: democracy, rule of law, and human rights.
“History has shown the importance of standing alongside those who share our values. Kosovo is built on the same foundations that connect us with our allies, and we will always stand with you in defense of these values,” she affirmed.
